This woman bears 5 children to satisfy her family that she has more numbers of the ‘MALE’ child then the ‘female’ child as having children of her own sex is considered as having no children at all. That is what is so important to change in a developing country where financially poor families have more mouths to feed only because of the stress to produce a male child, and there lies the root of a series of problems…. Rising population, no education, malnutrition and of course poverty.

Only one of my vines survived the ground squirrel, so we won't be getting melons this year - cantaloupe vines only produce one sex of flower, so they need a second vine of a different sex to pollinate, as I understand it.

or I'm totally wrong and we'll end up with melons. But I don't think so. The flowers are lovely and since I am not worried about the vine fruiting I don't fuss too much about the leaf miner damage on the leaves.
